It is set to be a huge summer transfer window for United with plenty of ins and outs expected at Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s new manager Erik ten Hag is expected to be involved in a busy summer as the club looks to rebuild following a disastrous 2021-22 campaign.
Erik ten Hag has a busy summer ahead at Manchester United
United are guaranteed Thursday night football next season however it is not yet clear whether it will be Europa League or Europa Conference League. Should United beat Crystal Palace on Sunday they will finish in the Europa League, however any slip-up would open the door for West Ham to overtake them should they beat Brighton and Hove Albion.
No matter which competition the Reds end up being a part of next season, new signings are desperately needed and expected. MEN Sport reported that United could allow Ten Hag between £20m and £200m in the summer to rebuild his squad.
With that in mind, the Daily Express has named five potential signings which the Dutchman could welcome to Old Trafford this season.
The Manchester Evening News has reported that centre-back is one of the transfer priorities for United this season. Ajax’s Jurrien Timber has been linked with a move to England but it is his current teammate Martinez who has been highlighted as a potential target.
Martinez has become a stalwart alongside Timber in the Ajax team this season and the Argentine may provide better value for money than his colleague. It is believed the 24-year-old could be available for £25m.
A top quality forward is surely going to be high on Ten Hag’s agenda this summer with United having to rely far too heavily on an ageing Cristiano Ronaldo this campaign. Ten Hag will have experienced first-hand just how good Nunez can be with the Uruguayan scoring the winning goal to knock Ajax out of the Champions League this season.
With 34 goals to his name with Benfica, it is likely that United will have to pay big for the 22-year-old. However, with reports suggesting he could be available for £51m he is likely to be a more cost effective option for the Reds.
Another striker will be needed next season to fill the gap left in their forward line and a rogue choice could be Kalajdzic. The 6ft7′ target man has just narrowly avoided the drop with Stuttgart this season and missed the vast majority of the season with a shoulder injury.
However, the 24-year-old played a crucial part in the latter stages of the season with his six goals in 15 matches ensuring that Stuttgart avoided the relegation play-off on goal difference in the Bundesliga. Should he not sign a contract extension, the Austrian could be available for £16m.
Brighton fans will not be wanting to see the back of Bissouma this summer but the Seagulls may have their hand forced in the summer. The Malian central midfielder has showed he can be key to a Premier League side and has caught the eye of United previously.
With the likes of Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips likely to command significant fees in the summer, Bissouma could cost as little as £20m. At that price United can afford to add another midfielder to their ranks.
Frenkie de Jong
A plausible option to be the second midfielder Ten Hag signs is De Jong. There have been reports that the Barcelona midfielder would be keen to reunite with Ten Hag at Old Trafford.
Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata are all set to leave the club in the summer when their contracts expire. A tantalizing prospect for Reds fans awaits should De Jong join having mastered a brilliant partnership with Donny van de Beek at Ajax.
